Didn't know you needed a code to unlock it. I've had the battery disconected in mine many times and never had a problem.

Hello;

Please explain unlocking. What I'm asking is does the CD need to be unlocked seperately from the radio and cassette player? We bought our 93 in late May, our first vette. The radio and cassette work but we can't get the CD to play. Maybe it needs to be unlocked.
Thanks, nicholas

Sounds like your CD player doesn't work because there is something wrong with it. It is very common for the CD player to fail in the C4's. Since your radio and tape work, your CD player not working has nothing to do with the "locked" stuff.

You only need a code to unlock it if a code has been set. If no code has been set, you don't have to worry about it. My '90 ZR-1's radio has the capability of being "locked" but it was never set. I've had the battery disconnected & reconnected several times and the radio always works.

The Delco Blose CD player will eventually "swollow" a CD and not eject it - and not play it any longer either.

This is a very common problem - almost a 100% certainty.

I have a 94 and a 96 and both of them have done this.

There is a guy that will repair it that advertises on EBay with good feedback. $150 plus shipping both ways and he will have it working for you.

Hello;

Thanks guys.

I have a pal that happens to be my Ace Mechanic. He has years and years of experience with Chevy dealers and is very highly regarded. He now operates his own shop. Last week he did a Physcial on our 93 and it came through with only a few minor, inexpensive issues.

We did talk about the inop CD. The only source he has for repair is some shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan that repairs all the radios on GM products. Only dealers and shops with a connection can send units in for repair. Al spoke with the repair guy who would not give a ball park price but said if it was to expensive he can provide rebuilt units for $500.

Would someone please give me contact info for the repair shop mentioned in a previous post? I have a bad time with ebay because of this terrible dial up system. The only system available to us.

thanks, nicholas

Doctor Dons is mentioned quite a bit, as offering a quality repair service.
Never used them myself though.
