Default Noob Intro

I just wanted to introduce myself to the C4 guys. So here is my story. I am a service manager/tech at an independant shop. I had a good customer drop off his 85 Euro Porsche 911 Targa about 3 months ago. He told me he wasn't coming back for it and asked me to make an offer on the car. The has some issues. It needed the clutch adjusted, new alt belt, and the heater box in the front had caught fire and melted. I offered him 2K and he accepted. I drove the car for 2 months and the car was fun. It got close to 30 MPG and drove pretty good. It had a bad syncro in 2nd and the valve guide were bad. That was going to cost about 4K in parts and machine work. So I took it to the local import dealer and he had 2 low mileage 87 corvette verts. I drove both and and really like one of them. So I made an even swap for the vette. No money out of pocket. The vette is not as fast but is way more comfortable and enjoyable to drive. I love the car. The vette has 2 issues the heater blows weak out all the vents and the cruise control dosen't work. I plan on digging into them soon. Here are some pics, I don't have a great pic of the vette yet:

Nice trade. Blower motors are weak on L98 vettes.

Cruise is probably vacuum line leaking,

Welcome! While certainly not cheap, I think the parts for the Vette are going to be Waaayyyyyy cheaper & probably more easily obtained than parts for the Porsche (it sure is purdy though)

Welcome to the Forum!!! That Porsche looked nice, but The Vette is a better car. You'll enjoy that Vette better.

Not necessarily true. My Vettes have been the bigger money pits.

And you know this how? You have 911 experience? There two different animals that run in the same pack. The 911 turns on a dime . You' have to do a 3 point turn in a Vette that a Porsche does with ease . A base mid 80's 3.2 Porsche has approx 219 bhp. I love them both. But there are major differences. Are you saying a Vette has better build quality?

The porsche was a Euro 930-20 code so it was 250hp. I wasn't a porsche guy and the parts are way more expensive. The porsche just needed a restoration, the paint was tired, the traga top leaked, the AC was removed, bad valve guides, and bad 2nd gear syncro. It was out of my price range to repair. I had fun with the car and I can always say I owned a 911. My tired bones feel much better in the vette and for me it is a better driving car.

As long as your happy that's what counts. In your situation the 930 would have required a major investment but at the price you got it you still would have come in under average resale value when finished. A Vette is more mechanically friendly and parts are readily available as with the 911s. Good luck and enjoy the project.
