AC not working!
How can I tell what is wrong with my AC? I can turn it on and it blows, but it's not giving cold air. How can I check to see what it needs without having to take it in for someone to give me the real reason that it's not working instead of a money hungry mechanic. Nothing against all mechanics, just ones who aren't honest!

Have a look under the fuel rail cover on the passenger side to see if the vac check valve is OK. The one in mine was so brittle from the heat off engine. Replacement from GM dealer for a few dollars.

Is the system throwing any codes?

It may be something as simple as low refrigerant (R-12 freon).

I'm going to say you are low on freon or empty, The main reason for no cold air is the compressor isn't coming on due to the pressure switch in the system. If the pressure is too low in the system it will not allow the compressor to come on. If you have a 92 you are probably going to have a hard time finding R12 as its getting scarce,you might want to look into getting an R134a retrofit kit. Also, if the system is low or empty there is usually a leak somewhere.
