Default rear deck latch broking

I have a 1990 convertible and I put the top down. when I went to put it back up the driverside latch would not release I went to use the manueal cable release but it pulled off now I don`t know how I can get the top back up is there a way that I can get the latch to realese?

is it just me, or is every thread title mispelled lately?

try needlenose pliers, grab that cable and give er a yank

Default can`t grab it

I can`t grab the cable it came off from the screw and I have the whole cable in my hand now

I know of the emergency hood release tool. This is basically the same problem, in the back of the car. You can't be the first to experience this.

Maybe you can get an idea of what needs to be done by contacting a chevy dealer and getting a quote on said repair which may lead you to a resolution.

guess I've had my hard top on too long- the cable you are grabbing (and broke) is the cable to release the top when it's UP, releases the pins in the 2 holes in the deck.

The 'hatch' releases electrically with a button, one in the center console, one just under the hatch, behind the driver seat (yellow button).

You shouldn't be pulling a cable to get the hatch open (unless 90 is different, then I'm full of shiz)

90 vert operators manual supliment says:

Unlock top storage compartment lid by pushing the button on the underside of the lid behind drivers seat or by sliding the switch located at the rear of either door down.

Default got it fixed

well I had to take it in to a body shop I don`t know how he got the deck open but he did and then replaced the latch and put the manuel releaes cable back in I don`t know if anyone is in Ann Arbor MI but Dusty`s collison did a great job and did it for $168

I tried that with my release to try and get my top down. No such luck.
