I agree, my mechanic I think got them from Summit. I suggest you make sure he is really good at rear ends, my mechanic was really good, but there is a whine at certain speeds. I have had a new mechanic now for awhile. I really like the 373 gears, it was like giving the car another 100hp. The trade-off is the top end. The 373 are like 2600rpm. at 75, I wouldn't go any lower unless you never intend driving a freeway. But heck, the last time I went over 135mph. was in the desert 2001. We backed off just in time. There was a CHP cruiser just below the hill and flat we were flying on. It was a most memorable day, we were on our way to Lone Pine Time Trials. My buddy pulled up beside me in his Subara at 125mph. I looked over, downshifted from overdrive and waved 'Bye' ..

Tom's Differentials in Idaho. You'll also need the speedo driven gear for the 3.73. I believe it's a 45 tooth and about $10. You can get it from Marc Haibeck at ZR-1 Specialists. If you go with a 3.90 theres a lot to watch out for like ring and pinion thicknesses and you will need both a driven and a transmission drive gear for the correct speedo reading. This is all presupposing you have a Dana 44. If it's a 36 I don't know the correct info.

More so with D36.
D44 only came from factory with 3 series gear sets so a regular 3.73 is a bolt in.
You need thick D36 gears if converting from 2 series gears (2.59 / 2.73 ) unless you swap in a 3 series D36 carrier to use regular 3 series gearset
I presently have viper 4.10's (D44) in the car and time to replace them.....It really is to much gear for the car (383) and J. Lingenfelter told me when he built the motor he said either a 3.73 or 3.90 would be more ideal......Thanks for your suggestions......
Hey skeetdaddy, check out IKERD's (forum vendor). I purchased a complete D36 diff assembly w 3.73 about 5 years ago, and was/is the best money Ive spent on the car IMO. Product was shipped fast and diff has been trouble free to date, no problems whatsoever. A little pricey but well worth it. Best of luck to you. http://www.ikerds.com/catalog/group14/group14.html
If you have the 4.10 and it's too much, you'll have to go to 3.73 for any noticeable difference. IMO 3.90 is very close to the 4.10 ,and that is a waste of money.
I have 373 in a D 44 and I drove it across Texas and N Mex. without problems driving 70 and 80 in West Texas [ The Speed Limit On I 20 ]
Unless you want a whinny loud thing be sure to get it professionally set up as it's a bigger deal than throwing it together.
Choice of steel used is critical but luckily most aftermarket gears of the racing variety are quality heat treated steel.
