Just received an used ECM was to be from an 87, well the pins are totally different, the Service number is 1226026, can anyone tell me what year it is from?
the "pins" are the slide type and not "pins" like on my 87.
If I can find out what year, maybe I can use it as a core for a good one for my 87
thanks
george
George, the ECM in your 87, PN 1227165, was used in many GM cars and trucks in the late 80's. The chip, is what makes it unique to your 87. Any reasonable salvage yard should sell you a ECM for about $40. Put your chip in it and you should be good to go. I upgraded my 85 to the 165 ECM. Am running an ECM that came from a 4 cylinder S10. Got a chip through the local Chevy dealer but could only get one for an 87. Reprogramed it to the values used in some 89 applications. My point here is that there is a lot of commonality in the 86-89 ECM applications if you are careful in how you pick and chose. There are l internet sites that list ECM applications by year by engine. Google should turn up several.
did u change the wiring harness on your 85 to accomodate the 165 computer?i have an 85 and was told the harness has to be changed/modified to accept the 165 ecm
The 85 has to be changed, as it was a stand alone year with a maf module.
The engine harness is by itself, and the car harness is separate.
86 and up, the harness are one.
