So do I understand the bulbs are bad? If so just replace the bulbs unless I'm missing something. My two inside bulbs are bad as well, heck they all may out for all i know. But someone told me one was out and then the next day another one went out. It seems they like to go in unison.
Its the brake light switch at the brake pedal. Easy fix and less than $15.
yes it very well could be the switch. Don't they have like two connectors on the switch. One for the main brake lights and one for the third brake light?
Mine hasn't worked since I bought the car. I haven't bothered fixing it because it's clear to me no one in Texas cares that it's out. Been pulled over twice, LEO didn't mention it. Got it inspected, it passed.

But these bulbs are pricey little boogers.
On the tangent tip, does anyone know if there's an available L.E.D. upgrade?

I too have been looking for an LED third brake light but have had no luck. Somebody here ended up making one from a generic LED strip that they fit into the existing housing. I will probably go this route unless something turns up...
Harbor Freight ( www.harborfreight.com) sells a 9 inch LED Strip that contains 24 Red LED's for only $9.99. I bought two strips (48 Red LED's total.
Its real simple to install. Open up the High Mounted Stop Light. Remove the OEM light bulbs. Each strip of LED's will just slide in the area in front of the stop light reflector, and the red lens. The two strips easily fit stacked one above the other. I off set them by 1 LED. The LED strips have two wires from each stip. One wire is ground, the other is 12 volts. The polarity of the two wires is critical or the LED's will not light up. Have a friend step on the brake pedal to provide power to the high mounted stop light. Then take the two wires from one strip and touch them to the two printed copper strips. If the LED's dont light up, swap the wires. Then mark them. Repeat this for the second strip. Now solder the 4 wires from the LED strips to the printed copper strips. Do a final test. I used a few dabs of epoxy to be sure the LED strips dont move and become off center.
Now I want to tell you......when 48 LED's light up in the high mounted stop light, YOU WILL BE SEEN. And the current draw is tiny compared to the light bulbs you are replacing. If you have a problem installing them, PM me, I will help you.
