Default Vacuum system component 94

In working on the tach filter replacement and other things today, I discovered a Vac leak. This component was essentially decomposed at its connections. I am still digging thru the FSM and the vacuum schematic to find this, and will soon dig out the factory parts CD and look for a part number, but if anyone happens to know right off the top of their heads, I'd take a charity pitch on this. It has been a trying day with the rusted out freeze plug, and the tach filter. Photos below. Component is on the passenger side, top of engine, towards the rear just anterior to the #6 cylinder injector. The rear 2 connections at right angles to each other are 2-way vacuum, the front has a one-way check valve so vac can only go one way.

Photo of component first, in my grubby hand.

In position/"installed" on the top/rear of the engine, passenger side

And a closer shot. Sorry, I'm not clever enough to photo shop a red circle around it. I'm not smart, but I can lift heavy things......

Someone, please throw me a bone. Eventually I'll find it and share the info, but I need a few beers now. Thanks

Certainly could be, but it leads to nothing anything like it in the Parts CD, or the FSM. I am believing it to be part of the HVAC system, as the 2 lines leading out of it (rearwards) go directly into the wiring harness wrap that runs from left to right in the photo just below the assembly in question. I am unable to find it when I go thru that system though. I believe it may be the vacuum supply that goes to actuate doors in the AC/Heat system, but cannot find any reference to it whatsoever. There are a variety of drawings of various components in both the parts CD and FSM, but nothing that matches this item. Still digging, because I need one.

Found now in the parts CD in HVAC system Valve, HTR and A/C CONT VAC TK CHK (stamped 6648) (3.885) AC DELCO # 14056648 92-95 (LT1) Here is a Google product search, "out of stock" at this source: http://hires.amazonwebstore.com/AcDe...B000C9F658.htm Another source here, but it looks a bit different: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C9F658/...8&linkCode=asn I don't feel too encouraged about finding one on this small island in the middle of the Pacific, but we'll see. I'll entertain any other suggestions, and could even break down and go to the (gasp!) Dealership.

Try a Napa if they are local to you. Part #7301348. Used in many GM applications and not Corvette specific.

Got a NAPA down the hill and was there just yesterday. I did a quick search online with your number, but had to put NAPA in front of it. A lot of stuff came up, there was a number of photos and it appears identical to the part I need. I'll give them that number and see what they have.

And James 93LT1--they seem to use that term for it a lot in the generic nomenclature, Vacuum Check Valve. Thanks!

Part number is confirmed now. I went to the only NAPA store on the island that is open on Sundays, down in Waipahu and bought their last one. It's the correct part, so now everyone can go out and buy up all their store stock as I am sure many of you have toasted Vacuum Check Valves--it sits right atop the cylinder head where you can bake a pototo on a short trip on the Hwy. They don't last too long ladat. I will post up some more photos later when I download and photobucket them. No, I didn't take photos of the NAPA store in Waipahu, sorry.........

Okay, so now the photos. This is the new unit, you can see NAPA part number on the package. You can see by comparing with the first photo in this thread that the original had significantly deteriorated. I spent a lot of time picking out broken off bits of the original unit from the vaccum line connectors--didn't want the debris to get sucked into somewhere they could do mischief.

And the new part installed. I know, the toughest part about the whole job was finding the new part, and I knocked over my beer that was perched atop the tire while snapping the trim cover back over the fuel rail. It wasn't completely full though and the bottle didn't break.

Thanks to JamesLT1 and Blackbear Bob.

You may be right, I'll have to try it. I honestly haven't been using the AC all that much to have really noticed since I can drive around with the windows open year round here and tend to do so, but the last time I used it it did seem a bit warm....maybe the blend door was open too much or something ladat. I will try it out soon as I get my replacement instrument cluster in--that's another thread..........

Oof....AC doesn't work. Compressor clutch won't kick in. All fuses okay, I jumped across the freon low plug to make it think freon was okay, and the clutch engaged. I am outta freon. Will fix that next............

So what's the status on the spilled beer? Domestic or Imported? I guess there all imported. I may be looking at a new check valve, just had my car C-4 smogged and had a bad vac hose that connects to that same valve.

Out here unless it is from a local brew pub, or you homebrew it like I do, it's all imported. This particular one was one of those green bottle dutch beers that are so popular. With the part number, you should have no trouble finding that check-valve at a near-by NAPA place.

Don't forget to flick out your AAA Auto Card club at NAPA, too. They discount parts prices for AAA members.
