Uh, anyone notice were in a HUGE recession noones lining up to buy anything right now. Bad time to be worrying about something increasing in value

I read a lot of discussion about what '84s are worth, C4s not worth much, etc.
Consider this:
A '90 Corvette holds its value better than a '90 Lexus, Mercedes or BMW.
A '94 Vette in decent condition is worth between $6,000 - $10,000.
A '94 Lexus LS450 in good condition is lucky if it gets $6,000. An ES350 is worth less. A '94 BMW of any model , in any condition is worth a lot less than the Lexus or Vette. This holds true for Mercedes against Vettes.
In my research a Vette in decent condition will command a higher price than a decent Lexus, BMW or Mercedes of the same year.
A 1999 Vette is still going between $14,000 - $17,000.
A 1999 BMW 32x or 52x goes for about $10,000 - $12,000.
The Vette is a better resale investment and value. Even the '84. What '84 commands $4500 of another brand?
The '82 vette is getting $12-$16K. What '82 of any Mercedes or BMW commands that?

Your resale prices on Corvettes are out of wack. Take a look on Craigslist. This is what most buyers use as a price quide for Corvettes. If anyone is paying $4500 for a 84 they are paying to much. (And I own a 84) My friend picked up a 70K 84 with good paint and a no ripped interior for $2500. Sad because we all know these cars are worth much more. Find a buyer who is willing to pay more is the problem. My cousin had his 02 on this forum for three months for 17,500. NO BITES. Last I heard he was selling it for under $11,000. This was a black on black coupe load with mods. I Think in part the C6, a poor economy and Craigslist has put our C4 and C5s in the basement. Maybe time will heal this madness. Either way I plan on holding unto mine rather then let somebody steal it legally.
2.) ebay (completed sales) will give you a better idea of the market value vs. craigslist, but have to realize that all values are skewed to
a.) location
b.) true condition, not what someone says it is
c.) desperation to sell
3.) A C5, or any model, are much tougher to sell with 'lots of mods'. Most want stock cars.. an 02 for $17500 is way high, unless it's a 10k mile garage queen. $11000 is quite low, unless he's in the 150k mile range, accident or ??
4.) your friend got lucky. $2500 for a clean low mileage 84 is a good deal below value. Here, you could stick that car on a street corner with a 4sale sign and get $4k.

When C4's get hard to find, people will pay more.
That is why C3 is going up. C5 is coming down, and our poor C4 is in the cellar.
In 1994 when I bought my '89, I could have had a fairly nice '68, 4 spd, 427 convrt. same price.
Took the C4 because I did not want the maintenance headaches.
Been great, won't ever sell, and time to change my mind is running out!!

Don't feel bad, I've made my share of questionable automotive decisions as well. Right after I got married in 1978 I traded a big block 1965 Impala SS with 29K miles in on a Toyota Corolla.
