It will depend on the alternator temperature and the electrical load. At idle speed the alternator cannot generate its rated current, so if you have a high electrical load, the voltage will sag to as low as 12.0 volts. The voltage regulator in the alternator attempts to maintain 14.3 volts volts output, but it is not highly temperature compensated and when it gets to it operating temperature, the voltage will drop to about 13.3 volts. So if its hot and you have a low electrical load, your voltmeter will read about 13.3 volts.
