My 92 6-speed...it's beginning to be difficult to get into 1st or Reverse. All other shifts fine, and it does not slip. Is my tranny getting ready to take a dump, or is there some stopgap thing I can do?

It could be your clutch master/slave going bad. One of the symptoms of a failing clutch linkage is shifting becoming "notchy". The downside of the master/slave issue is the synchros will take a beating and then you're looking at some $$$ to fix the trans!
With the clutch pedal to the floor, at idle and coasting at say 20 mph, you should be able to smoothly shift from gear to gear. if it is hanging up or you have to force it into some/all gears, then you probably have a clutch issue. Caught soon enough, you can avoid damage to the synchros. See ZFdoc.com for a comprehensive treatment of the trans and the clutch maintenance.
