Default Windows

My parents had the vette painted and when they did the people took the door panels off which I have no problem with, but they didnt put them back on right. The window on the driver side will roll up halfway and then it will start clicking like crazy like it is off track or something. The passenger side window just does the clicking and wont do anything. What am I lookiing at here?

A refund of some $ paid. $2 grand for starters then we'll negotiate.

I don't know why pulling the door panels would cause this problem unless they also pulled the window regulators and motors. The clicking you hear is most likely the motor gear is stripped in one spot. This can be caused by too much pressure on the window causing it to bind. Anyway, here's a quick reference to the components used in most power window systems.

That is the only thing I can gather unless it has never worked right, but they made it seem like it was messed up after the paint job, but who knows.

Thanks for the link,Rob. I replaced my son's Pontiac's driver-side motor with a napa remanufactured TWICE and eventually both jammed up. These are new-we'll see how good they are. Free shipping too!

There is some info in here, but the pics are not that great.

The 86 uses a nylon gear ribbon, knock off a few teeth and it goes nowhere or only part way.
Remove the door panel and have a close look.

Apparently the "ribbon" type regulators were pretty common, enough so there is a replacement ribbon available at most parts houses in the "Help" section. You will probly have to trim it to length and it will hafta be riveted back into place.

The newer style scissor regulators are faster and more reliable, you may consider going with them. I have upgraded both of mine and am extremely happy with them.

Good Luck!

Did you replace the regulators your self? What brand did you go with?
