I've ordered a hatch vent for my coupe, but I'm wondering if it will really elimiminate the ear punishing buffetting noise I get if I run with the targa top out and the side windows up.
It's near deafening and while pushing the visors up vertically limits the noise, it doesn't eliminate the problem...then of cource, there's the little annoyance of the visors getting pushed down by the wind at anything much over seventy.Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks. Cire96 :D
Update...Put the unit on saturday. It works like a charm. Very little buffeting and a much less turblent cockpit. Thanks to all.
A CF member (Kevin McGrade) made some very cool ones out of aluminum last year. It's a high quality product. Not sure he has any left, though.
The one I bought from Mid-America cracked after just a couple uses. It was still functional but for $35 it was very cheaply made. I still have it if anyone wants it.
I bought the vent from Kevin. Mine works as advertised. I believe they all are similar, except the material used. I would not consider any unless made from Billet Stock (Kevin's are aluminum), or I do not believe they will hold up.
I'm not too thrilled with mine. It's the one from Mid-America. When it's in, I cannot see anything out my rearview. The glass reflects the blue in the paint along with all kinds of sunlight. I take it back...I'd be able to see if someone was on my bumper or if they were 2 blocks back. Anything else is a blind spot.
Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I should just use it at night, or let the dirt build up so nothing will reflect. :smash:

Re: Do hatch vents work? (cire96)

In my 88 the hatch vent eliminates most of the buffetting noise. Its just a wind rush. They are
i really want a hatch vent but i don't want to buy from ecklers or mad cuz of everyone saying they are easily broken and so forth.
wish kevin would make more or give ne exact diagrams with dimensions on em so i can have one machined
I got a couple from Kevin.. one Black anodized and one in the natural finish.. I have not been able to try them yet but the Vent Master one I have works well
anyone know the the website of the guy that made his own,i think he was from canada, and was selling them delivered for under $20. :)
I don't have the website, but I bought one from him last year at carlisle ($15, I think). Its a real simple piece, two separate parts; one screw on extension for the latch and one extension for the light. I have had zero problems with and it was cheap as hell to boot.
I also have one of Kevin's. Its high grade billet aluminum so it can take the abuse of that heavy hatch when you hit bumps. I ran mine up to 130 with the targa off and it made a noticeable difference. if you have modified exhausts, its WICKED loud in traffic from idle to 2,000 rpm's.
