Default what is this

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is this?( the part behind the accumulator). It is blowing air out the tube at the top. I also have code 32, which is the egr from my understanding. I removed the hose and checked the vacuum on it and it bleeds off. I will be replacing the egr. Will this cause the part I dont know what is to blow air out the tube? click the link below to see the picture (1991 L98 engine)

thanks

That is the solenoid for the smog pump.

I believe that line that is missing goes to a check valve that then goes to the cat.

Code 32 could be other things like the EGR switch or EGR solenoid. But if you can't pull a vacuum on the EGR, or you can't open it up with a vacuum pump. Then you need to replace it. I recommend getting an AC Delco EGR from autopartstomorrow. You want to get a negative back pressure EGR. Most of the aftermarket sell positive EGR's for some reason.

Not familiar with the 91 A.I.R. system and it's been a long time since I had that crap on my car, but it could be the port that goes to a silencer. When the ECM doesn't call for air injection, the solenoid diverts the pumped air to a silencer (muffler).

thanks. didnt know that there was different pressure operated egr. I checked mine by disconnecting the vacuum hose from the egr switch and connected up my vacuum pump. then pumped to 15 and it would bleed down very slowly. I figured the egr was bad. Is there a way to check the switch and solenoid ?

Don't know about the switch. But there are some checks for the solenoid in the Corvette service manual.

I believe the EGR should hold vacuum for around 20 seconds. On mine, I'd pump and pump, but the needle would fall straight to zero.

On my 89, that hose on the top goes to the silencer. The missing hose goes to a check valve that then goes to the cat.
