I don't personally get the C6 GS either, except from a business standpoint and profit- then the answer is self evident- GM could sell a few more cars.
From time to time I think about throwing all my eggs into one basket and getting a C6 Z06, driving a $1000 car to work, and eating ramen for awhile, but the regular C6 I have is paid for. That and I don't really want to feed California with the sales tax again either on a car I would drive very much.

Well when you get bored with all the senseless Hi falutin' chatter that goes on over at C6 and want to come back into the "Garage here with us grease monkeys again where the real work gets done" we'll still be here for ya!!!
Sold my '92 today for $5,000. Now I can focus on my C6. Had fun on the C4 Forum. Best of luck to all of you.
Isnt it sad that our great cars have no resale value. $5,000.. what a kid would pay for a run down Accord or a updated 5.0. Mustang. Really Sad when you think about it.
The late C5Z06s could just take a ZR1 stock for stock early ones would be in the rearview of the ZR1. btdt
In a straight line maybe... on a road course the only thing a ZR1 that is even remotely close to stock is going to see are tail lights shrinking in the distance.
True, the Zs are a little porky weight wise in comparison
It really isn't a weight issue as much as a suspension geometry/braking difference although weight is always a factor in handling. The C4 suspension is good, no doubt but the Z06 suspension is simply better from front to back. Even a decade after it was introduced it is still one of the best out there.
I know a lot of people on the C4 side don't really like C5s but if you ever have the opportunity to take a box stock C5Z out on a track it will blow your mind how well GM actually did for once. They are as close to the perfect mix of a very reliable, very tame, very comfortable, gas mileage friendly daily driver and flat out race car that I have ever seen.
With that said... I am not at all bashing the C4Z. For their time they were amazing cars and still hold their own against some of the World's best. Currently they are way at the top of the list for my next Vette purchase.
No youre right the C5 will handle it better and sometimes even feel softer or more compliant going through the corners, its very deceiving as over time most (including myself) have equated stiff=handles good
. Can recall going into some pretty hard and thinking "theres no way this thing is going to make it" as it felt almost kinda soft. Handled it with no drama I can guarantee the same corner I have in mind in the Z or a standard C4 would have been a little hair raising if not catastrophic. Im an idiot with Vettes and corners anyhow probably best I dont own one anymore;woulda totaled it or run it off a cliff by now guaranteed

When I first started driving my 02Z I was actually very disappointed in how it felt going around some of the twisty roads that I was used to in my old Z51 C4.
...then I looked at the speedometer and realized I was going about 20mph faster in the Z06.

I think this is kind of what the C4 means to me. Sure, it has some pretty decent cornering speed when you get the entry right, but everything happens a little slower in a C4 and you don't have to be 100 percent on your mental attention to have fun with it- My C6 scares me when I haven't had any track time for awhile until you get used to the higher speeds again.
for a street toy or for collecting, you can't beat the style (and price) of C4's right now. Of course I don't get my panties in a bunch about C5 arguments because I have the newer car also- I don't drive it all that much, but that's to keep the wear and tear down on it because it was an expensive car, but mostly it's to keep me from losing my license.
Seems to be more of a forum thing to me. The dealer that i bought my vette from(he deals strickly in corvettes)can't keep these things on his lot, he deals in clean low mileage(under 100,000 miles)corvettes and asks $10,000 and over for C4's and they sell as fast as he gets them.
Anywho, good luck with the C6, she sure is purty.
Here in Pittsburgh, there are very few C4's for sale. The ones that are for sale are not cheap by any means unless they're beat high mileage cars. I know of an 85 and a 92, both very clean, at a large dealership right now that are both listed over $10,000.00. They don't last on car lots here at all.
