Default differences in armrest tops?

Several months ago I ordered a new shift boot with matching armrest cover from one of our vendors. I have a 1989 coupe ZF 6 speed manual. Nothing special, one of thousands I suspect for that year.Well the shift boot was much too small and the armrest cover was much too large. After many emails and photos and measurements the company finally sent me a very tight fitting shift boot but it worked out and I am happy so far. (It could have been a half inch bigger to be perfect.) After sending back the non fitting pieces I was informed that since they did not have the right template for the armrest cover they would be sending me a refund which is all well and fine except I don't understand.
My question is this:how many armrests from 1984 to 1996 C4s are different in their dimensions? I should think that from 1984 through 1990 at least they should all be the same size, no? The company is telling me they do not have the right template and is ready to refund me the difference for the armrest cover. I find it difficult to believe they cannot fit an armrest cover for a run of the mill '89 C4 coupe daily driver.
The quality of materials is excellent and the customer service department is very polite but the products have not been at all near fitting.
How many of you guys have a cover on your armrest?

Can't help, but have you tried Zip or Mid America?

I've wondered this myself as I've looked at covers that had different years specified. When I was at MidAmer last year they had one that said it fit like 92 and up or something like that anyway. So I guess they do have different sizes.

I'm going to take mine apart and redo it myself.

Default Here's what the armrest looks like

This is the new cover from the side.

From the front

From the underside

from the top

This thing is so long, wide and deep it will cover the "breadbox".
It is not exactly snug but had I not sent it back I could have made it work by trimming it and gluing it to the original top.
The company has indicated that it will try again. It might yet work out to my satisfaction.I am hopeful anyway.
