Default Temp Controls not working.

On my 91 Vette, the Temp controls suddenly stopped directing the air to the correct button position.

My 91 has the Manual cold/warm lever selector which opens the cold/hot air correctly but, it seems the electronic airflow buttons are stuck on the defrost/knee position. The air flow will not switch to any other vent position. Everything was working fine last night.

Do I need to replace/clean the temp controller? Thanks

May just be no vacuum, the full climate control uses it, I think yours does too. Uses engine vacuum to move the air doors to the requested location, no vacuum and the doors default to defrost.

Look for a tiny vacuum line under the hood, passenger side, should T in there somewhere. It's about the size of a 14G insulated wire and is hard plastic, not rubber.

Thanks, I'll check for a vacuum leak and also, for a possible blown fuse somewhere.

Cleaning the contacts couldn't hurt either. if you have any elctroic contacts.

On the auto climate this is a common thing, but not sure about the manual.

Like Sarge said, You may want to look into cleaning the contact on the climate contol unit. A lot of us have done it and the most common symptom is the temp up or temp down buttons fail. Here is a great guide. Good Luck.

Thanks, for the helpful link!

I'll take the climate control apart tomorrow.

Well, I took my "91" Vette manual electronic temp control box out but, I found there are no contacts to be cleaned.

The individual push buttons press a solid white plastic button on the inside of the box that presses a mechanical switch soldered to the circuit board. It's not like a modern TV remote or computer keyboard where there are copper contacts to be cleaned. The buttons are all assembled inside a stamped steel cage and there is no way to take it apart.

Also, I found to remove the manual warm/cold cable, you have to first remove the glove box door and tray. Inside you'll see the cable end, just pull the cable from the plastic adjuster guide, slip the end of the cable off the end linkage and then you will have enough slack to remove the cable linkage from the control box too remove it from the dash.

I ordered a new Heater/AC control box from Corvette Central. Hope this helps someone else.
