depends on your front wheels' width...8.5'' = best not to go with 275s... 9.5'' is ok.

I've run 315's in the front with no issues. Are you asking for stock rim size to put a tire on or a different set of rims and tires?

275/40-17 on 9.5" wheel on the front of my '96.
I wouldn't put a 275 tire on an 8.5" rim though.

It was just the AFS A Mold wheels with the GS offset. I never did try to turn the car to full lock I was running some Hoosier R6's on them at TWS. I felt it made the car push with the bar that i was running and went back to 295's

No, they did not.
The base suspension cars came with 255/45-17 front on an 8.5" wide wheel, and 285/40-17 rear on a 9.5" wheel.
And you could get the CE with base suspension.

Offset has nothing to do with tire size. This is how the wheel sits on the hub/inside the fender.
Difference between 56,54 and 50 is almost all the same. 56mm vs 50mm is 6mm- less than 1/4".
What year is your car? (too lazy to look at profile)

I have 275-40-18's on all four corners, 9.5 width, 55mm offset. No issues with rubbing lock to lock. Vette is a 90 @ stock front height.

try looking at the specs page on tire rack. It lists the rim sizes suggested for different tires.
I generally agree that a 275 should have the 9.5 wheels, but a few tires like the Goodyear GSC stated OK on an 8.5.
Another option is the Camaro SS wheel that looks just like the CE wheels but is 9"
