Default Interior lights

My first corvette (1990). My interior lights stay on after you open the door. I've turned the ignition key on and they do go out. Is there a relay or something that would cause this? This is the first time I noticed it. I added a battery tender up to the battery last week and I noticed this today when I retreaved something from the car. Thank you for your help. Mac

If I understand correctly, your interior lights go on when you open a door, and stay on after you close the door, but go off when you turn the key on. Not sure about '90, but in my '92, this is how the lights are supposed to work. If you don't turn the key on, the lights go out after about (I think) 30 seconds.

Default Interior lights (update)

Thanks for your replies. Like I said, my 1st Corvette and I feel really stupid. I read all the posts including the sticky from Nebcorvette and began checking. As a side note I got the car in November, drove it back from Chicago, wash/wax, installed new brake pads and covered it for winter which leads me to the problem. Appears after new pads were installed I failed to close the pass door all the way after I put the battery minder on last week and covered it up. I noticed the light didn't go off when I returned to admire my new toy (appears these cars put you in a differant state of mind). I did learn something else. The lights do eventually go out even with the battery minder on and (close the doors all the way). Again thank you, this is a great forum. Mac

Hi, Mac, welcome to the forum.

The unfortunate truth is that you now have a virulent disease which is almost impossible to cure, but it can be managed by means of Corvette ownership.

I'm sure you will find on the forum a wealth of info, as I have. You might want to get a Factory Service Manual for your '90, (referred to here as FSM) which is much more useful than Haynes, etc. You may even be able to find the original Owner's Manual, also helpful.

Good luck with your new ride!

The light are susposed to go out when you put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the start position. They should go out in less than a minute if you sit in the car without doing anything.
