Someone help me out. I have owned this 84 for five years and I dont see any cup holder. I know Corvette central sells one that fits in the ash tray. Is this what you guys are talking about when you say you have a cup holder in a early C4???
Ya, you know, the round hole where you put your change and once you've hit a buck, it's full?

Dude, they're right there under the stupid flippy lid that covers the ashtray and cigarette lighter on the console next to the shifter for goodness sakes.

As others have said, all C4s have had places which might be mistaken for cupholders, although they're small or unusable (my 1993 can only move forward with a cup or can blocking reverse gear). GM must have thought that we'd be more European in our driving habits where eating or talking on a phone is an illegal distraction from driving, subject to a fine. They take it as seriously as we should. Balancing a Big Mac on your leg or clenching thighs around a plastic cup can lead to messy and embarrasing clothing displays.
Anyone know what was the first year C4 had cup holders? Did they ever have them? I guess the early designers never thought C4 owners might want a place to put their coffee on their way to work.
I got two in my '85.
Remove the ash tray, 2 cup holders.

15-20 years ago when these fine cars were made the Euros had no such laws. Even today they DO still make cars there with cupholders... and ashtrays with real cigarette lighters instead of generic 12V sockets.

That explains it. My ash try is sealed shut. The little rubber dodad that keeps it held open or closed broke a long times ago and since I dont smoke and no one would dare smoke in my car I sealed it shut. Oh well only bottled water is alloud in my car anyway.

Hey, did you steal my car? That's my color carpet and interior. Wait, the check engine light isn't on. Sorry, it's not my car after all!

Wonder if he knows about the door console lids....
I don't think the problem is the cup holders, I think the drinks have gotten a lot bigger over the years.
I got my 84 back in 1988 and I don't remember ever thinking the cup holders were too small. It was my first car with cupholders and I actually thought it was great.
