93-02 Trans Am Opinions!

From what I have been told the Opti-spark is mounted low in front of the engine block underneath the water pump. If water from puddles or gets in, it ruins the Opti-Spark. Also if you have a water pump leak, the dealer will also tell you to change the Opti-Spark just in case, and since they are already taking the water pump out, it is cheaper to replace the Opti_spark then instead of having to tear back into the motor again. I am still on my original water pump and it is starting to have a slow leak which would indicate why the Opti is going out again. MSD makes a replacement for the Opti-Spark which I hear is better and is sealed better. I love the front ends of the 93 to 97 Trans Am, but pehaps getting a TA with the LS1 motor might be a better idea just to avoid the Opti-Spark. Thought my TA is a daily driver up until 2 years ago she was garaged and then covered at work, but still rain, puddles, etc still affected the Opti at least in my case. You will also hear from some magazines that the Opti-Spark problem is overblown. Just stating my experience.

Agreed, as I have an 85 Trans Am as well. But like C4s, 3rd Gen Trans Am are like step children in the Pontiac/Trans Am hobby.
