VATS??????
I bought my 1984 vette used. I don't know how to work the anti theft system. It has never gone off. When I get into the car in the mornings, the security light is flashing. Then goes off when I start the car. How can I check to make sure it is working?

This is how I got mine to set off:
Roll down your window on the driver side.
Lock your doors, and wait for about 2 minutes.
Reach in over you door and unlock your driver's door from the *inside*, then open your door from the outside.
The horn should start beeping incessantly.
To turn it off, put the door key in the door and turn as if you were unlocking.
That is what worked for me in setting my 87 off, usually accidentally. :)

I'm pretty sure there is no VATS in 84. (The little resistor in the ignition key)
To arm your car alarm you must take the keys out, open the door, and lock the doors with the power lock switch. You should see the security light go from blinking to solid. Shut the door and security should turn off within 3 seconds. After that if a door or the hatch is opened without unlocking with a key, the alarm will sound.
