I was talking with someone who said they knew someone who had a c4 with a "slapstick" transmission. it was auto, but you could switch gears like a manual. I said i didnt think that was factory. he assured me it was.

whats the truth to this?

It wasn't offered on a C4. My wife's Loncoln LS has it and the Caddy CTS does as well. I'm sure there are other models that have it too. Unless he found a way to install one of the later model transmissions that have that feature he's just blowing smoke.

Complete answer: Its not a slap shifter like the merc/dodge/chrysler cars 5 speeds are(like the charger and 300c) or a lot of other companies actually have. However, all of the later years auto cars do have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th alond with neuteral park and reverse. Not just 1st, overdrive, park, neuteral, and reverse like most auto cars do. You can also shift them down at almost any point, but you cant force it to upshift.

It's true! That factory option also included high speed mirrors and light weight glass. Sorry, there is no such thing as a C4 with a "slapstick" transmission. That was a Mopar transmission back in the day and a very slick one at that. He must have just been moving through the transmission gears by manually shifting it while accelerating hard. Just as can be done in most cars. The rev limiter will stop you from trying to overwork the transmission speed in lower gears.
