Guys, I'm not sure about one thing here... Will a 1990 stock wheel fit on a 1987 coupe? And visa versa.. Would a wheel with the 87 offseet fit a 90 correctly? What year did the offset change. Both wheels we are talking about are 17 X 9.5 all the way around..
Thank You
Up. Those wheels are for me.. I currently have 17" 9.5's on my '87... I know my year comes stock with 16" wheels.. Any advice for us here? We're working on a trade...
Thanks in advance...
Oh. One other thing.. If this would be a problem, how do people with older C4's get the sawblades to fit?
Sal, the 90s will fit, but the offset will be different. The 90s I have on my 86 fits and drives fine, but if I have to make a sharp turn, the inside will rub on the front tires. The rear fits fine, but the outside edge of the tire sits about 1" further inside of the wheel well than the stock 16" wheels will. To offset this, you will need a wheel adapter or wheel spacers. 1/2" spacers can be had for about $30 for all 4, but you will need longer studs. Spacers are also considered not as safe as adapters. Adapters will sell for around $200 new from Ecklers or MAD. VetteBrakes also sells some considered to be the best adapters for about $300 a set (ft & rr). I have heard from some people that the adapters are not completely safe either if you plan on doing any aggressive driving (ie. AutoX-ing), but daily driving should be fine.
Check out Photo Album P2 on my website if you want proof that they will mount and drive without spacers/adapters. These have been on since Friday before last and I have not had any problems.
I put '01 rims and tires on my car with no problems, and sold my stock '94s to my buddy with a '86 and they bolted up with no problems. Both cars run great with no rubbing or spacers. Good luck.
If they are factory 90 wheels you will need 3/4" adapters to make them fit properly. They may rub inside without them. My 86 required 3/4" adapters to make the 95 wheels (same offset as the 90) fit right.
Thanks for all the responses everyone. This is all sounds soughta less than great. I don't know for sure if I want anything that's less safe than stock... I guess we'll both have to do some thinking...
Being that I already have 17" rims on my '87, does that mean I already have some sought of adapters in order for them to have fit? If so, I will just buy Dave's rims outright and keep my rims...
Okay. I'm answering my own question here. I suppose it's possible that I could have some sought of adapters, but that's unlikely. Who'd buy a set of brand new ROH's and not get the right offset...
If anyone else has any input, opinions or suggestions about adapters and how they effect the car, please reply here. I'd like to get as much information as I can.
You can buy the ROH's and other wheels with the correct off-set for your 87. The off-set changed in 88 when they went to the 17in wheels. Looking at your pictures I would say you have the correct off-set for your 87.
Sal, I have a set (4 pcs.) of brand new wheel adapters from Mid America that are specific for 84-87 to fit later 88-96 wheels. I've had them since before Christmas and never got the chance to buy the wheels. They are new, I have not even opened the box from Mid America. If you or anyone is interested I'll let them go for $150, they include new deep-reach lug nuts. Item #603-203 E-mail: ccciprianccoman@yahoo.com
