Default Hella E Spec H4 Conversion

Hello,

Does anyone have the correct part number and sizing for the Euro Hella Glass Casing conversion that everyone is using? What's the best/cheapest place to buy them? I plan on using these with some H4 100/90 bulbs for better lighting. Some sites say 200mm others say 190x132mm. I'm guessing these measurements are the same sizes just listed two different ways. See diagram below.

I did some searching and found some Hella Vision Plus lights at Summit with part number 003427811 (190x132mm).

I also found Hella Vision Plus 003427291 (I've seen these listed as 200mm or 190x132mm) on some sites.

What is the difference between these two models?

Thanks!

im sorry i dont have the hella e-spec headlight p/n's, but I do have the bosch e-spec headlights p/n that I am recommending on my car.

bosch e-spec headlight p/n:
0 301 019 100 - 730

bulbs: Narva clear glass 130/100 watt: P43t-38 48951

These were recommended to me, along with clear narva 130?/100 w high beam bulbs. These were an enormous improvement in high beam lighting giving me confidence at 120 MPH on a dark race course. I also put the heavy gauge wiring in there, with relays, directly off the battery. Very clear crisp 'whitish' light (though not by any means HID-looking).

There is also a CIBIE e-spec headlight housing that fits our car that is equally good/possibly better than the Bosch e-spec p/n. I dont know that part number.

I think the hella stuff is available at summit. I monkeyed around with the hella e-spec headlight housings and deemed them high quality - though I ended up selling them.

190x132
I have the Hella's, back then, the part # was 7220. A quick search brought this link.

The new part # is 003427811. A quick search brought this link up.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLA-003427811/

Search around, I'm sure there out ther cheaper.

I bought mine from my local jobber and got him to swap out the low wattage bulbs for 100/80, at no extra charge.

Rick:
When you put the Hella's in locate use the extra brite bulb. I finally burnt one out after 20+years and went back with a true135/90watt bulbs they were just a little brighter than what I had in back in 87'. When I took them out I did find that the connector to the bulb had gotten hot and did melt a little so I had ordered in the high temp pigtale and spliced it in, have yet never had any problem with them. I never did put in a relay anfd my alternator had plent for them. Stay away from those bulbs that talk about Kelvin when you get over 6500deg. the color will be more blue and not worth a crap at night.

I have now put in a HID fog light conversion (really easy to do); when they are on you really don't need the headlights on(low beam)you can see so damn well and that is even with my blackout covers on the front end.

Good luck wro87

I remember one version of the Hella H-4 housing being non US DOT approved and Euro market only. The current ones available for market here carry the US DOT approval on them. The difference was the convex in the glass and the directions of the Apexes. Not sure if that is the difference in the types you listed but that used to be the main difference between to two many years ago. As to the blub pick the color and the watts that you want on Ebay. The blub and housing is standard so even if the H4 bulb listed is for a yugo and has the best price buy it as it will fit. The model of the car doesnt matter so find the best bulb you can in the heat range you want (color) all H4 bulbs will fit these housings. GC

I just got off the phone with Hella. Here's what I found out...

003427811
ECE (aka E-Spec)
European not US DOT approved
200mm (Will fit C4 Corvettes)
Better Lighting
Headlight Kit - Contains two cassings and 60/55w H4 bulbs

003427291
SAE
US DOT approved
200mm (Will fit C4 Corvettes)
Lighting not as good
Single Headlight - Uses 9003 Bulb but H4 will also fit

So it looks like the 003427811 kit is the way to go between these two. Whats better between the Hella, Bosch, and Cibie? I've read the Hella's have a larger distance between high and low beams but that doesnt seem to be a problem for most people.

Thanks for the replies.

Probably not answering your questions directly, but thought you may gain from what I installed back in 2002. I purchased this Hella E kit with 100/55 : http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=744

They are very knowledgable and responded to my questions...their site is also loaded with information.

Good Luck!
