I have found myself with the task of helping find a 1992 Corvette a new home, but I need some base information of which I am lacking. I am told this one is a part of a special series in which there are only 500 produced per year. It is a white model with a gray convertible top. Does anyone know the name of this series or where to obtain information on it?
Thanx,
BPS

20% of all Corvettes produced in 92 were white. So that equals approximately 1,175 white verts (if the percentage was equal between them and the coupes).
I think you meant tat the pictured car has a gray interior as the top is black in the pic.
14% of Corvettes produced in 92 had light gray interiors. Extrapolate that to come up with 165 white 1992 Corvette convertibles with a light gray interior.
There is a web site somewhere that lists the actual numbers but I don't know where to find it.
Just because it is rare does not make it desireable though. I hope this does not offend any owners out there but I find this color combination to be rather blah and not very exciting.
If the car is in good condition with low mileage and lots of options then it might be worth 10K. There are 100's of C4 verts for sale out there with the LT1 engine and the competition is fierce. Just check Craigslist in any major city (such as Phoenix).
Also be prepared to fix any problems the car might have and detail it the best you can. Expect a lot of low ball offers too.
It is not a special model. It might be a front row car in a small town car lot at best.

Ah, the very rare and desireable special edition corvette. One of only 330,000 C4's! (Can't just have a nice corvette, it has to be rare, "one of only two purchased new by left handed mule skinners")
Sorry, it's your basic 1992 corvette convertable, 1 of 5,875, 2,790 had the black convertable top. Nice car, not especially rare, not especially sought after. Great values though, good luck!
Hey, lighten up folks! The guy asked a legitimate question and everyone is jumping all over him. While my 94 Polo Green convertible is certainly not "rare", I still love it. I like the Polo Green (same color as money) although my wife isn't crazy about it. We also owned a 94 Camaro Z28 in Polo Green and sometimes I wish that we still owned it. Oops! I am beginning to ramble. A true sign of old age.
BTW, welcome to the Corvette Forum BlackPowderSmoke!
Post the RPO codes, and the guru's here will give you every little bit of info about what the car has for options..but as others have said this is just a C4 with no special value beyond what vettes sell for in general in your area.
As for the rarity and special edition tale.....The car is my father's, he bought it new. He made the claim from the beginning and swears it is of a 500 per year special edition class.
I am just trying to help him get rid of it, I have no hang ups about anything regarding this car so any unsavory comments don't phase me at all. I never saw anything unique or exceptional that placed this vette in a special class.

Thanks for the info. Where do I find the RPO codes? I would assume they were on the white tag on the door jam and not contained in the vin. When it stops raining I'll go out see if I can find them.
There were no special editions in 92. Point blank no Corvette EVER carried the title "Special Edition" more of a 80's nissan thing. The only one that was special in 92 was the 1,000,000 corvette produced and that ain't it.
In 1993 there was 1 Black Rose Metallic ZR-1 made with white interior. The car was built for Bill Kay Chevrolet in Downers Grove, IL.
In 1991 5 Black ZR-1's with Steel Blue interiors were built.
In 1994 two one of a kind ZR-1's were built. One was an Admiral Blue with Red interior production #443 was built special for the owner of Kerbeck's Chevrolet, the second was a Competition Yellow with Red interior (also currently in TX.)
In 1995 it is rumored 2 ZR-1's were Yellow/Red.
It's rumored that on 4/23/91, a special color 1991 ZR1 was made for a dignitary - WA-9795 Green/gray.
In '93 the plant switched to a new (a two component polyurethane) that was typically applied thicker than the previous flavor... The peel appearance is due to the paint technology change. The 2 component paint has a longer wavelength (wider) peel than the previous 1 component, which was quite short (tight).
In the book All Corvettes are Red, it mentions that 10 or 12 ZR-1 narrow body spyders were built. Some had DR-1 on the license plate in honor of Don Rukle the executive. He was presented with a silver ZR-1 convertible with a yellow interior built by ASC and Chevrolet at Bowling Green.
In 1992-93 GM started running out of the Birmal heads. They found another manufacturer, Dunn, to make heads for the ZR-1. As GM ran out of Birmal heads for the 1994-95 production model of the ZR-1 they started installing the new Dunn heads except they ran out of the left side Birmal heads first so some '94 ZR-1s have the new Dunn heads only on the left side. Eventually GM started installing Dunn heads on both sides but only later built '95 ZR-1s got Dunn heads on both sides:
And this one comes from me again.
There is nothing collectible about the 96 Collectors Edition.

It might be that the "dealer" that your Pop bought this car from told him that this car was a special edition. However, rest assured its nothing special other than its a nice looking Vert with muddy tires
