Default Door replacement and panel interchangability

My '92's passenger door panel is pretty much shot. I've done several searches here for repairs but with multiple issues I might order a replacement.

Now the problem - it appears the door itself was originally Admiral Blue (my car is Bright Aqua Metallic). Admiral was not an option until 1994. And looking at Taber's for instance, I see they offer one door panel which fits up to 93, and another which fits 94-96. If that is the case, I'm presuming I 1) have a 94 or newer door and 2) would need to order a panel to fit the newer door.

How do you tell the year - or group of years - for a passenger door? What are the differences between the panel for the two groups? I want to be sure what I have described above is accurate before placing an order.

Thanks!

the door panels for 94 on up are very easy to tell apart from your 93. but I can't see why a 93 door panel wont work on a 94 on up door. what is the date code on the glass

The doors are pretty much interchangeable through all years. The door panel you need is for 90-93. The 94-96 door panels are different, to match the different dash/interior.

So what you're saying is a 92 door panel will FIT on a 94 door, the difference is in the styling?

Not sure how to read the dates from the glass code.

The 94-96 panels used a different metal mounting plate within the door. The part of the metal plate that comes out to support the door pull screws, is mounted lower in the 94+. You can of course swap these metal panels from door to door as needed.

Thanks! Tomorrow I'll have to get in there and do a complete exam on what is where.

The old panel has busted plastic where the top of the door pull screw goes, the ribs are broken in a couple different ways, and it just does not seem to fit right. I'm wondering if a PO replaced the door with a newer one but re-used the older panel, thus the lack of stuff matching up.

The year of the door and glass doesn't matter. What matters is which door panel you have. I'm guessing it's the 90-93, piece of carpet on it and NO armrest glovebox. Does it screw in along the bottom, or does it use plastic buttons? (up untill 94, they had plastic inserts in the lower part of the door to screw into, 94-96 they removed the inserts and just used big plastic buttons).

That is correct - screws on the bottom, carpet on it, and no armrest glovebox.

Of course it's possible the door itself is from a 92 or so, and had been painted a non-stock color.
