Default Flopppy-eared sun visors

'96 model convert, and the ends of both visors have given up.

Those that have encountered this problem, what resolution did you undertake? Any fix?, short of purchasing new? Upholstery shops can rebuild?

TIA

There was a thread on here not long ago about someone who rebuilt their own sun visors and cured the floppy eared problem, but I'll be damned if I can remember who it was. I'll dig.....My car has the same issue.

I stuck a pen in my DS visor to hold it up until I can fix it properly. Been that way for about 6 months now. I might have fixed it properly.

I had the same problem on my '95. I just flipped the ears up on top of the visors and then put the visors up. The ears don't flop down in the way of my view anymore.

Friend took his off, cut the material at end, pulled it back and and cut off the floopy ears. Had the guy that does sewing/alterations at the local dry cleaners trim the extra material and make a seam and sew it up. Total cost $10. Looks like they came that way from factory.
On my list of things to do.

Here is a quick fix: cut 6" or so of coat hanger or other stiff wire. Sharpen one end to a point. Then carefully slide it through the material, along the seam until it's completely inside the visor. It's not perfect, but certainly did the trick for me.

Default My fix.

Take a sharp pencil and carefully make a hole in the clothe in the end of the floppy part. Cut a heavy duty plastic wire tie to the correct length. Slide it in the hole in the fabric. If your wire tie is not heavy duty, put two in the hole. Work the hole back together with your thumb nail. If necessary, put a drop of super glue on the hole.
You decide if you want to put the wire tie on top of your visor or below. I went on top. Good luck.

I popped the mirror assembly off mine and then slipped a piece of stiff plastic into the hole extending out to the floppy part. The mirror just pops back on.

Mine aren't as solid as I would like on my 95. Mine droop slightly, noticeable when you enter the car. Seems like a common problem.

I just installed two new sun visors in a friend's '88 as part of a re-carpeting job. They have a map strap on the driver's side and lighted mirror on the passenger side. Got them from Corvette Central for $110. Takes about 10 minutes to remove the old ones and install the new. The new ones use better quality materials and don't have the floppy ears.

I just removed the driver side. I'm 6'3 and can't use it anyway. I will say that the factory visors on my 86 were much more of a heavy duty material than the flimsy garbage thats in my 96

After I had mine fixed I had vinyl covers made for them so the wind would not destroy the material

These all sound good. My passenger side is "semi-floppy" due to my wife always grabbing it by the floppy end. My side is still perfectly stiff. I already bug my wife about too many other things on the Vette, so I'll just let her completely ruin her side before I apply one of these fixes.

Yes, they can be rebuilt. The total cost was around $75, and $50 of that was the embroidery.
