Because new replacement body parts never come ready to paint. They have casting marks, imperfections, and fitments issues that need repaired before they can be installed and painted. No two cars are the same, so aftermarket body panels can't be made to fit perfect right out of the box. even if you bought an OEM one from a junk yard you would still need many hours of trimming and alignment.

The amount of labor needed is about the same between stripping a panel and replacing one.

Also, 99.9% of replacement body parts Ive seen are china, japan or Taiwan made. They are no where close to the same level of quality as the OEM GM parts. To buy a new one from GM would cost alot. That is if you can even get one at all.

I needed one years ago for the earlier C4. It was not available from GM or aftermarket. The insurance paid for a reconditioned one but no one had one in stock. They would have to pick that one up and send it out. I got the heat lamp and glue gun out. Figure if I was gonna pay for a repaired one, may as well fix it myself.

Have to ask yourself the same question I did..is it worth spending probably what the car is worth on a paint job..I said no. So I spent 16 hours wetsanding, polishing , buffing and waxing the whole car..looks much better and all it cost was a lot of time and around 30 bucks in materials..plus the buffer..

It is the orginal paint. She spends most of her time in the garage. The only areas effected are the ones in the pics which I guess get the sun when the garage doors are open.

My complete car was peeling like that when I Picked up from the last owwner that sat outside for the last 7 years in a dirt field.

I thought the Price Tag of $2000.00 was a good deal at the time LOL.

I sanded the whole car down to the base primer and repainted it in my garage due to I did n't have $6800.00 to have it done for me.

But after seen anouther paint job on anouther C4 I wished I changed colors Next time I paint the car or If I run across a extra $6800.00 to have it Done for me LOL.
