Default C4 Side Window Adjustment - Please Help???

My '89 drivers side window is not adjusted properly. The door is hard to close and the window has damaged the side roof weatherstrip. I have a GM manual and this does not cover the window adjustment procedure. Has someone done this and where did you find the adjustment procedure. This is my first post as I am a new member.....so be kind to me!!

Thanks in advance for any useful information. Sam

Sam -

Have you given thought to the problem actually being the door sagging? I know you probably don't want to think along those lines, but it could be the cause for your problem.

It's actually odd that you posted this question, as I had taken my car in today to be looked at because the passenger's side glass was striking the metal frame near the rear side rails (weatherstripping). My first thought was a slightly sagging door, but figured how could that be when the car just turned 25,000 miles and is a garage queen....well, it turned out to be a sagging door alright. The bottom hinge bolts were adjusted and that's it.

You may want to look into that possibility.

There is not much out there on this, I was having a problem where my window went up too far. Inside the door there are nuts (and one out side doing the work :jester ) that must be ajusted. I think I have pictures but I will have to find them.

IF 89 is the same as 92...the bottom of the window is held to the regulator with three bolts...these can be adjusted...and from what I've read, should be adjusted to make the bottom of the window parallel with the bottom of the door. Also, there is a front window stop that keeps the window from rising too high in the front...mine was only maginally adjustable, but if the window is rising too high in the front it will hit the top front roof and the back top will hit the pillar. Also...(fun huh?) there is a window stop for the total rise of the window. As you're looking at the inside of the door it's at about 2:00...and is held in an adjusted by two bolts that are on the outside of the inside door frame. It has little hook-type things that catch a rod on the actuator as it rises and stops it. It is adjustable vertically AND the angle of the hooks are adjustable separately.

I just did mine...and everything is fine. But, I also replaced by hinges (small accident). If you think adjusting the window is fun...try adjusting the door.

I had a new top installed and the guy adjusted my windows for a proper fit. I watched him. It did not seem too difficult.. The widow can be adjusted/moved up down or forward and back. Once the door panel was off it looked simple. Taking the door panel off was more difficult the first time I tried it..
Go by a GM dealer, they might print out a diagram of the window parts for you to get a better perspective.
Hope this helps a little..
Maybe someone will give you better info soon.. There are a lot of good people here glad to help you.
