I have searched the forums for this issue that just started happening, but can't find my symptoms. When I start the car (1987 ), the digital dash is black but looks like it trys to come on about 15 - 30 seconds later, but only bits and pieces of it light up and they are dim. The turn signals and the high beam light are not on. But all other lights and accesories function as normal. Any thoughts ?
Fred may be right but the digidashes are notorious for bad/cold solder joints. So much so that this topic comes up at least twice a week. The search function is your friend.
A recent thread I posted some steps to check for first:
I assume since you mentioned the high beam and directional indicators are not lit, you went to batee.com. I would think this would indicate your ground to the dash is ok. From the 32 pin connector in thats another story. If you havent been go ahead and run thru his info. Its also a place to get the schematics and wiring diagrams if you are electronically talented or to take to an auto electric shop. Your problem may only be a loose solder joint or bad connection at the two internal circuit boards. Power for the dash lights comes from external sources, not the board itself. The problem of parts working and parts not may be a crack in one of the boards. If your brave follow the steps at batee and open up the dash and look for obvious damage. You can also ohm out the dash bulbs and see if they are bad.
