My so called low mileage piece of crap '93 is telling more stories.
Apparently some kind of work has been done to it that requires removing the exhaust. WHoever took the exhaust off failed to put the spring hangers back on, so nothing was supporting my exhuast except the mufflers and the head pipes.
There is some kind of putty on the torque arm in the rear and the rear cover appears to have been removed at one time.
Since I have to drop the rear anyway to put the new one in, I guess I'll find out.
The posi went on it tonight, so the timing is perfect, I get my Dana 44 Tuesday and my Vigilante soon also.
Nothing like driving in a straight line and when you turn having the rear tire hop, skip and jump around.
Goes to show you, a low mileage car is not necessarily better.
At least now that I'm doing everything myself, I'll know what's been done and when.
Now I know why the car was so cheap.
That sucks....but at least like you mentioned, the 44 is going in soon. I take it you didn't crawl underneath and look for the telltale signs of what you just noticed?(before you bought it) My mechanic was with me when I went to look at mine...there wasn't much He didn't look at, under the car, on top..etc.
Well, Kerbecks Corvette in Atlantic City did not mention that to me that my 96 CE hood, door had been repainted even though you can plainly see the tell tale signs. Yet their expect trade in inspector was quick to point out that my trade in had what they called chassis damage. You would laugh if I told you what it was. I noticed the repaint before I purchase the 96, but wanted out of my vette. Took a heavy heavy hit on my trade in. But, I will never purchase a vehicle from them ever again. Trying to be slick worked for them in the short run only because of my situation. But in the long run they lost a future customer. It was no suprise though. All dealerships are the same regardless of what they say or how good they treat you.
Good luck with your gear swap out.
I'm thinking of going with 3.73 soon.
That sucks, I hate finding little "surprises" when you start working on your car....you should have seen the mess on that yellow 90 I had...bolts missing out of important places, things welded that should not have been, stuff loose...it was a disaster. Things you wouldn't notice just by looking at the car - which is why I did not see them. At least you have a remedy to your problem at hand. Haven't found any such surprises on my Z yet, and fingers crossed that I won't.
