Default [Update] My vette's progress

Well well well. I talked to Frank today, at the body shop, and he said that the front impact bar from GM is not the same as the original Early C4 Impact Bar, they've made a new design which requires like 5 extra brackets. Also, my CURRENT impact bar is FINE, just the mounting bolts got pulled out. So what they're going to do, is fix where they got pulled out, and make it STRONGER in that area. (I understand this, as I used to make fiberglass skating boots...fixing fiberglass breaks makes it possible to make the piece STRONGER)
BUT, I found out, that I won't get the money back I expected to, because some of the parts I supplied them with are NOT GM pieces (Well, isn't that funny, that good ole Frank sure said "Uhh..I can't get the front bumper cover, GM no longer produces it, maybe you can get it." So, I think somewhere here HE'S getting the money I deserve. Even though I DIDN'T buy GM parts, is only because GM no longer MAKES the parts (Or Jeff, you KNOW I'da got ALL the pieces from you) Ohh well..no biggie really. He STILL promised it done by friday. So we'll see.
The part that I didn't like, was he started saying how unpredictable aftermarket is. The ONLY aftermarket piece I got REALLY was the hood, and that's from Vanacor which I believe makes BETTER pieces than GM!
Sorry if this seems like a bit of a rant or rave, but I actually just wanted to let everyone know the status of the project.
The guy said "Since it's an aftermarket hood, you'll probably have waves in it". Which I then asked "So can I claybar the car once I get it?" and he said "yes, definately, but don't wax or polish for TWO (count em TWO) months"!! Ohh well..I guess that converter and interior pieces will have to wait...Ohh hmm
Still, FRIDAY is the promised day. :D

If the guy knows how to do any prep work on the hood you shouldn't have any waves. But even little ones will show up on black paint! I would be more concerned about pitting...I haven't seen any peices from Vanacor but most of the aftermarket fiberglass I have dealt with has had some pretty bad pitting and that can take a while to fix properly...hopefully he takes his time! I know what it's like, my car was hit and was out of commision for almost 5 MONTHS! Post some pics when you get it back!
