I know its early, but i was just wondering when it comes to the electronics which is better? (battery) Disconnect or leave connected or battery tender. Where i live it will be put away 5 or 6 months. This is my first Vette----
To keep on topic, if my car had to sit for that long I would use a battery tender also.
I could see Mike doing this, but you Greg!!
I guess you owe me a couple. To be honest, I was waiting for that Texas hound dawg to jump in. He's really mean right now, you know heat stroke, distemper etc. I am helping him get through it though
A battery tender will work and you can forget it. The down side it can go defective and quit or over charge the battery and kill it.
Or you can just leave it disconnected and charge it normally once a month which is safest and what I perfer.
Never did store a car or had to but....
Inputs from others on storage is, run the engine once a month and if possible drive the car and get to operating temp. Not good to put car on jack stands getting wheels off the ground. Not good for the suspension.
Absolutly DISCONNECT the battery. no reason to have power running in the car. If you can take the battery out,put it on a piece of wood. If not its ok to leave in car. Put STABIL in Gas. Cover it... in spring good to go.

, while the risk is small, actually very small, there is always a chance something will short and cause problems...electronics fail. When no power is going through the car you don't have that worry.
After reading all the replies i think i'm taking the battery out. Not to bring up another thread, but then i have to decide which mouse control to use (i live in mouse country) Maybe i'll just use everything i can think of together (dryer sheets, electronic mouse guard, poison, winter green and maybe a bunch of air freshiners) who knows? Their tuff to stop. Anybody want to add anything but a cat lets hear it

Where are you storing the car? Your garage? It might be best to try and keep mouses out of the entire garage not just your car. It'll be easier to do that plus you don't want to find mouse crap all over your car!
I'm not an expert on mouse control devices but you could start by plugging or covering all access holes around the garage. Remember if a mouse can fit its nose through a hole it can fit its body through it too.

Garage stored----When you live in the mountains around hay fields when fall hits those little buggers seem to find their way into everything know matter how you button things up. So you have to have a good game plan just incase. It only takes two to make a dozen

Well in that case call your local pest control and ask them for tips.
This year I'm going with the rat zapper! I've tried every single suggestion listed here over the years (irish spring, peppermint oil, dryer sheets, moth *****, ammonia, voodo dolls) and nothing has worked except snap traps. I like the rat zapper because it just seems a little easier and cleaner...they even have one that will alert you when one's been zapped!
I use glue traps inside and outside of my car. I also put out D-con poison outside of the car. It's stored in a garage. I also put it
up on jack stands. I don't know how high they can jump!
LOL and I was the one that last responded 10 years ago. I now store my same Vette in a basic 10x20 storage unit for $160 a month during winters. They have serious mouse/rat traps though out the storage unit site I use. Been doing this now for the last 5 winters from Oct to Apr and never had problem with rodents.
Personally I recommend that as you can rent on a month by month basis. For me the $160 a month is worth it rather then the damage those little bastards can create with chewed wiring, chewed insulation, and so on!
