Default Thoughts?

So I'm looking to buy an LT4 corvette coupe. I found one nearby that looks nice, has 102k miles, body and interior are in good to great shape. it has an aftermarket cold air intake, and corsa cat back exhaust on it. also has dual power seats. the question is that when I ran the carfax it came back with having had structural/frame damage reported, this happened with not the current owner but the one before him and the current owner never did a car fax and bought it off a dealership so he didnt know about it. before and after the incident the owner at the time (according to reports from carfax) continued to do all his service at a local chevy dealership, and the vehicle still continued to pass texas safety inspections. it was never totalled or salvaged or anything. and carfax has no other information that what i've already put in here. the current owner is asking $9800 for it. do you guys think it is worth taking a look at anyways and checking out the frame and parts. I know my brother has that same report from carfax on his car and all he did was snap his lower control arm. any thoughts?

Not for $9800. Offer him $5000 tops. LT4's are worth having. Otherwise run as fast as you can from him. :-)

If the front sub-frame that holds up the radiator and bumper was replaced it is technically the frame. But it is desgined to be replaced.

Take it to a body shop and have them check the frame if you are worried about it.

if this one is as clean as he claims, do you think this one is a better deal, if it checks out clean, its 5k more, but half the miles and I like the color better. claims to have been garaged and babied.

I know the market is down but its hard to gauge with prices varying from 12k to 24k for the same vehicle with just different owners who have different values.

Nice car but dont be taken in by the "rare" claims. It may be one of 103 based on color and options but its just one of a million C4s and not worth any more than the others. The only exception is the LT4 motor and it is just more desirable.

If you like yellow that would be a car to definitely explore. The LT4 is a good car to have. In most cases they'll run with the LS1 C5.

If you like the color better and assuming the paint is in good shape - that's $5K right there considering what paint jobs go for these days. The lower mileage and (assumed) lack of CarFax damage is gravy.

well thanks all for the advice, I actually ended up flying down to atlanta yesterday and picking up one from this forum, http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4s-...-corvette.html . it is beautiful, and a 500 mile trip netted 28.2 mpg.

Congratulations, nice choice! I might be a bit biased though
