There are loads of threads in the "search" forum. (heater core)

I'd start there.

While I would not totally discount the heater core, there are lots of other things that could be wrong.

You said "not working well", not sure what that means. Is it leaking?
You can flush the coolant system (or just the heater core) to make sure it is not clogged.

It could be the vent door, controls, fan, heater hose (although you might overheat if it is a hose), etc. I would check out the simple stuff first. The heater core is major work. If it is not leaking it is probably OK.

The key word here is "not leaking". If it is not putting out much heat it may be clogged.

When I got my 94 it did not get hot but only warm. If the hoses to the core are not as hot as the other fatter hoses when up at temperature, the heater is probably blocked. Removing the 2 hoses to the core are pretty easy. I had to flush about 10x both ways until it ran clear. Now I flush every 1 - 2 years to avoid that problem.

If you have the C68 auto HVAC system and if there are no flashing LEDs, chances are the blend door is OK.

Check your heater core and radiator to make sure you don't have Dexcool and Ethylene Glycol antifreeze mixed. It turns to paste and will stop up the cores. If its not bad some Prestone Radiator Flush will clean it out. I finally replaced both radiator and heater core with new ones from Corvette Recycling.com. Radiator was around $100 and Heater Core was $38. If you can flush the core clean in place GREAT. Replacing the core is a labor intentsive job! This on my 1995 LT-1. Along with a new WP and Hoses I never run over 200 to 205 in Houston. The Dexcool paste is unbelievable. It's hard to clean out.
