Default Any ideas for a kill switch?

Hi All,

I'm looking to put in a kill switch somewhere with in range of the driver seat. Security issues in my neighborhood.

I don't have a service manual so I don't know which wires to cut into.

Anyone have any idea how to do this, I'm hoping to put in a toggle switch of some sort....

89 Coupe

I vote, the hot wire on your dist. to stop it from running, the small wire on your starter to stop it from turning, mount it where you like it.

Yup.

It looks like you have an ealy C4, so it would be the Pink wire going into the cap of your distributor.

No VATS?

WOuld be more worried about someone breaking into it than stealing the car itself.

I have been wanting something like this also, just for a little more piece of mind when I have to leave it in the parking lot. A well hidden toggle switch is a good idea but cant they just trace this back if they know what they are doing.

I don't suspect someone that would be trying to steal a car is going to take the time to open the hood, get the FSM out and troubleshoot it.

I added keyless to my L98 setup. The keyfob triggers a relay as part of the lock circuit. That means there's no switch to be found....only an obscure relay added to the sea of underdash electronics for a genius thief to figure out.

This is what I recommend.

Buy a keyless setup for $40ish and I'll tell you where to install the extra relay.

OTOH, with VATS you shouldn't "need" it.

Any self repecting thief knows that a wire direct from battery Pos to the BATT terminal on a HEI dist will fire it up ; completely bypassing any Ign kill switch you have inside.
Much better to isolate the fuel pump supply wire where it runs to the tank.
Even if they hotwire the pump relay in the engine bay , the pump wont run

I like that idea much better also.. I am aware these guys know what they are doing and it would not take much for them to find a kill switch without the ( FSM )

As GP noted above ;
'89 has VATS.

Nobody can start the engine without the correct key unless VATS has been disabled or the thief has the time to try 15 different resistor values until he gets the correct one

A friend of mine had an electro magnetic valve put in onto the fuel line with a kill switch (keyed kill switch) and it worked great.

I'm actually thinking of installing the same thing.

Bye

Check out Clifford Black Jack alarm, it is better than a kill switch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard to can short out the VATS system with a paper clip. Then you can just pop the steering column with a screw driver....?

My Tires and Exhaust system would be reason enough for someone to steal it. Not to mention all the other parts they could rip off and try to sell.

How about breaking the wire from your oil pressure sending unit to the ECM. The ECM will disable the fuel pump because it thinks the car has no oil pressure when the switch is open. Hide it around the jack somewhere.

VATS aint that simple. Takes the correct resistance. One of 15 possiblities. They are just giong to take your wheels anyway. Too much hassle to get the car started.
