What controls the electric fan IN FRONT of the radiator, ONly comes on when I ground out the relay. Is is suppose to come on immediatley when the AC is on?. Primary fan works fine. Car got to 242 and front fan never came on. Any ideas or fixes
The h/d fan (in front of condenser coil) is activated by the temp sensor on the right side of the engine, its near the dipstick. it's a brass color when its grounded the fan will go on. It is fitted as a heavy duty cooling system.
The ecm controls the main fan when the head pressure or a/c reaches around 240 psi, via sensors in the liquid line near heater/a/c box in engine bay and it also activated by ecm as engine is warm to control coolant temp. The fan you are talking about only turns on when the engine temp reaches above 115 deg c. pull the wire of the sensor and ground it and the small fan will run with ignition on.

While you are at it be sure to clean out the crud between the radiator and the AC condenser. This will help it run cooler as more air will pass over the radiator coils. Gives you peace of mind too.

Your Vette will suck up all manner of crap because of where the inlet is. Be careful to not pull all the way up over piles of leaves or mulch landscaping.
