Is it possible or advisable to remove the passenger side power window switch without removing the door panel? My switch is intermittent and I want to try and disassemble it to clean the contacts.
You can remove the switch without taking the door apart. I just had mine out last week. You can pull the connecting plug through the switch hole to unplug them. Mine is a 93 but I'll bet the switches are the same.
I've thought about this also for my 96. The FSM says to remove the door panel, however Gordon Killebrew (Corvette Trouble Shooting) says it can be done like what others describe by 'carefully' using a small flathead screwdriver. Mine looks like the PO used some type of 'gunk' to push it back in place. I need to take it a part to see what condition the clip is and why the 'gunk' is being used.
And the contacts are not that hard to clean. I disassembled and scraped the contacts. It seems there is silicone grease to lubricate the actuator tongs that contact cleaner would wash out if you just sprayed that instead of taking the switch apart.
I put a couple of small spots of clear rtv along the edge near the clips when installing to reduced noise. Not enough to be visible, but enough to snug things up to eliminate squeaks and rattles.
BTW-I now have a couple of reconditioned 1994 passenger side switches (white labeling) for sale/exchange if someone would like to just swap n go! $15 shipped w/exchange.
I had to take the door panel off as the wires were tied to plastic anchor inserts inside the door. I just cleaned the contacts on my passenger window switch...not really difficult. I have a 1994.
FYI....I loosened the wires for the power switch so next time I can remove switch without taking door apart.
