Default electrical/fuse hatch problem

I have an 84. For some reason the hatch release button in the console has quit working. It apparently share a fuse with the radio, sunvisor, and rearview mirror. If I pull the fuse the hatch pops open. Any suggestions or ideas. Recently, I put an entirely new interior in. If I nicked a wire could this be the problem?

thanks,

berman

Just in case you may not know, there is a small thin silver bare wire located in the middle of the hatch trim piece that goes around the back window inside. If you run your finger under the trim piece and the edge of the carpet in the middle area, you will find this wire tucked up under it. Pull it downwards and the hatch glass will open. It can be used if you have no power, dead battery or bad switch, etc. I attached a small ring to it and leave it hanging down in the event I may need it.
