Default distributor cap help please

hey guys i have a 91 l98 corvette and i was having a slight misfire around 1000 rpm i changed wires and plugs and still the same, today i open the cap to check it out and in the middle of the cap there is a small button that pushes down on the rotor but it was jam and i tryed pushing it but it wasnt goin in or out like a spring, should it be like that or should it be able to move up and down when i push on it

The center contact in the cap is spring loaded and should move up and down.

If it's jammed, then it's possible you're not getting a good connection or strong spark.

Which would probably explain the misfire.

This spring contact rides on the rotating rotors metal tang sticking up. Both have to have a little play to work correctly.

Good luck!
