Replaced Brake Booster 2x For Cracks
I'm getting pretty good at changing power brake boosters.
I changed my original back in 07, because of a bad diaphragm.
The replacement lasted until this spring, when I found a crack in it, after doing a cam change. It made no noise, pedal was hard, engine ran terrible.
I covered the crack with duct tape and took it for a spin. Ran great!
So, I went to Advance Auto, where I bought the booster and got another, for free, thanks to the lifetime warranty.
It lasted 5 weeks, when it cracked, too. (In a different place.)
Thank God for warranties.
Got another free one and I'm back in business.......... again.
Moral of the story: If you have a hard brake pedal, feel all around for cracks. And most of all, buy one that comes with a lifetime warranty.
An interesting side note: both of my replacement boosters front covers have a date tag from 1996 and the back covers have a date of 2001. Maybe they're reusing the original front covers and using new rears when they rebuild them?
1st, cracked by exhaust manifold.
2nd, cracked above vacuum fitting.

I got the same one from Advance. It works fine, but it actualy moves to the right a little when I step on the brake. (my friend was watching it as we were bleeding the brakes). With my arthritis its a real PITA to get under the dash on my `90. Hope it lasts.
PS: the nuts are tight, I checked.
