Default Question on 96 LT4

I have a question on the readout on the speedomter readout. How high does it go. I am a chicken on trying to find out, since I am now 76. In the old days it would not been a problem. Thanks Larry

You will run out of "brave" before you have to worry about the speedometer reaching a stopping point.

How fast a LT4 goes? Depends on its care, present status and owner's honesty.

I was brave once and once it was done my heart was on my throat. The adrenaline rush I experience was too much.

And just to clarify, we are talking about on a track.

Yes, only irresponsible people would speed on the US 395 or other highways. There are tracks on every state.

I've seen 140 on track. Till I ran out of track. You seen some wild claims out there, like 200.

The documentation I have seen states top speed 171 mph. Which is the same claimed top speed by the way for the '02 to '04 Z06 with the LS6 405 hp motor. I cannot imagine the car reaching that speed due to physical limitations though. I believe it is a theoretical speed. I had mine dynoed 2 years ago (it's all stock except for a drop in K&N air filter which does nothing really) and it made 305 hp at the wheels which translates loosely to 360 hp at the crank with 360 ft lbs of torque. GM of course under rated them at 330 hp. I wish I had the dyno guy look down at the speedo when it was nearing 6300 rpms to see what the wheels were turning, but I didn't. The car'scomputer shut it down when it hit the rev limiter

I believe the display will go to 255 MPH. It's a digital thing. Is that the answer to the question.

Betty Boop is a fast woman. Kinda like here in Kentucky. We have lots of fast women and pretty horses.

4th gear at 6300 rpms, ~139 mph.
