Where are you at? I went to HiTech Motorsport in MN for a dyno tune. If you are trying to get one of those "canned tunes" it is probably a waste of money.
On the Diablo's, there a variety of tunes you can use. I've experienced them on MOPAR 5.7L and 6.1 Hemis. It also offers a tune that ramps up the torque curve significantly. With correct exhaust and intake on the 6.1 hemi, using the "performance tune" you can achieve close to 500 rwhp. On the 5.7, with some realatively cheap tweaks, 390 is attainable.
Since I haven't had a Vette in years, I was wondering what may be out there in relatively cheap preformance upgrades. Usually a CAI, exhaust and tune can yield "decent" results.
I'm not looking to track her but I know she's capable of a bit more.
LT Forums (300, Charger, Challenger). Search for diablo + mods. As I recall a few owners have the dyno sheets posted, although the one I looked at did have the MOPAR perform cam and heads.
I believe the older 6.1 hemi is 440hp out of the factory and the new SRT8 will be 500-525
I'd leave it stock, but it's your car. I didn't have problems with my '85 until I let a "reputable" tuner get a hold of it. Wasted alot of money and wound up getting rid of the car for the '93 I have now. Do a serious background check on whomever you decide to let mod your car (if you decide to got that route).
Eh, pass on that lol
That link doesnt exist. There is no way in hell a 6.1 hemi with exhuast intake and a tune: is going to make 500 at the tire. None!
I'm beginning to think you're right. I think these tuners only work well with late model cars. My car is simply a weekend cruiser. I was just looking for a few "easy" performance tweaks. I think I'll stick with swapping out the exhaust and adding a CAI.
505 rwhp for now @ 5lbs . Hoping a pulley change will take me to 540 range soon ( until i lose the stock block and go ape ****...lol .)

OK....you get the idea and YES!!!! I know they've added more than an exhaust, CAI and tuner. As mentioned, I'm just looking at what I can do on a budget for my VETTE!!!!
If your car is an auto, the tuner comes in handy for things like changing the shift points and shortening the intervals. You can also change the fan temps. No real power to be had with them, on ANY vehicle. If your car is a 6 speed, then I would definitely pass on the hand held tuner.
I have pretty good experience with the late model mopars, and Cuisinartvette said it best. No chance at all for 500 RWHP with exhaust and a canned tuner. We'd all like for it to be that easy, but reality states otherwise. Unless there is a turbo hidden in that exhaust, there is no way you're picking up 140 or so HP.

I don't know these engines/ powertrain well enough to determine but I believe Cuisinart and JohnTV are right. Without major mods and time investment, HP gains will be negligible with just a tuner, CAI and exhaust. I just don't have the time to pull apart the powertrain and can't afford having a shop do the work.
I'm going to learn a bit more about what I have and settle for a nice throaty growl along the winding roads of Northern VA.
