Everyone knows all corvettes are red from the factory and if you order a different color..well the dealer sends it to Maaco for a paint job.

It's a little known secret that all Corvettes leave the factory in red primer. Many dealers take the easy out and simply clear coat over that, leading to the famous "All Corvettes are red" saying. To boost sales by having a variety of colors, some dealers would instead paint over the primer.
Personally, I like my clear coated, primered '89.
