Now off topic, and I appologize in advance.... what cold air set up are you using.... it appears the filter is on the back side of the radiator, rather than over the rad support.
I got one of the later year tube supports that goes on the DRIVER's side, where a hood support belongs. All the holes were already there and I used the bolts from the scissors style support, which went in the trash. Now I don't have to walk around the car to close the hood.
Hi
You will get a bit of sideways movement in the hood support.
This is mainly due to it being fixed to the plastic wheel well parts,
I put a 1/16 plate there to support it to various fixing points and it barely moves now. I did remove the support a while back and hammered the rivet a bit to take out the play.
I do like how the designers put the hood support on the right side, must have been for r/h drive..... kind of nice.
I don't have to walk around the vette to close the hood
in my right hand drive vette
Look for late 86-87 push button strut and brackets or the gas charged 88+ strut and brackets.
Those scissors give me the *******
I opted for the gas strut setup using my existing lower bracket. I still have the push button strut that you could have for the cost of shipping, but you would still need to find the lower bracket.
I just use a metal dowel and have a rubber vacuum line cap on each end to keep it from slipping. When not in use it lodges right where the doors for the rear storage compartments are so it does not roll around.
Sorry this is the only picture I have of it. You can see how it fits at the base where the stock hood support went. Maybe you could do something similar to help steady the hood on your Vette? This would be the cheaper fix. However I would consider taking AGENT 86's recommendation to install the 88+ style set up and be done with it.
Doing OK. No, sorry must have missed that write-up.
I also updated the small struts at the front of the hood at the same time I went to the gas strut. Believe it or not, it was too good. When I lifted the hood (which only took 2 fingers compared to both hands I had to use before) all 3 new struts took over and slammed the hood open against the hood stops. I'm sure it would eventually break something if I left it that way, so I put the old small struts back on except for the large gas strut. Works real nice and easy now.

This was covered in my article. When they went to the gas charged support, they did away with the passenger side assist strut and only used one. Next time you get a chance to see an original late C4, take a look at the hinge area and you'll see only one assist strut. The mount is there for the other, but only one was fitted and you discovered why.
