It has 71,600 miles, the 6-Speed Manual, list price is $7999 and the dealer said he could give it to me for about $5k. Grey with Tan interior, glass top and regular top.
My question is, what should I look for before I purchase the car? Anything specific go wrong on these cars? I am definitely taking it to a mechanic first.
first of all, congrats on the 90 - my favorite c4. as far as what to look for, it no different than any other used car - as long as it starts, stops, has reasonable performance, doesn't overheat, good oil pressure, no service engine light, clutch doesn't slip, free of any significant oil leaks, and doesn't make any funny noises, you should be good to go. you have to remember that the car is coming up on 22 years old - expect a few things to be addressed. condition should be considered - restoration parts can dig deep into you wallet. good luck on your purchase - post some pics when you get them...
is it just me, or does that price sound extremely low? I've been looking at C4's for 2 months and cars like that (in reasonable shape) seem to be going for around 8.

I'm wondering if this is a trade-in used lot, or one of those corner lots with all the "bargains"?
But yeah, assuming all is well, that's a great price.

The "dealer" has it listed for Almost $8000.00 but is willing to sell it for $5000.00. Seriously? Almost half off! I imagine he must have all of $3000.00 in it to be able to sell it for only 5K. A six speed 1990 low 70,000 mile C4 can easily pull at least $7000.00 + in good condition from any reputable dealer worth buying from.

Reason: typo
Time of year
Probably has very little in it
Who knows??? It may have had a simple issue with it when they got it that the previous owner had no clue how to fix
Maybe the car lot is in deep trouble to brgin with and just neds the money like the rest of us???
Anyway, if it's runs out ok, $5k is cheap. I paid $5500 for a six speed 90 two years ago that I drove trouble free for over a year. Ebay car.
