Default distributor cables

can anyone advise me where to find the sequence or graphic information to install properly the dist cables to the cap from the plugs. I know # 1 is not in the right place. Therefore, chances are one or two are mis-plugged. 86 vette.

Someone may have had your distributor out in the past, and put it back in with the rotor pointing in a different direction. If that was the case, #1 could be in a different location than the diagram above. The firing sequence will always be the same, just the starting point would be different. To get it right, you would have to put the crank on top dead ctr. and check that the rotor is pionting at #1 plug position on the cap. You can remove the distributor and point the rotor anywhere you want, but where ever the rotor is when you put it back in, that will be where #1 will start the firing sequence.

If you remove the spark plugs you can manually turn the crankshaft while feeling for compression stroke on #1. Then put a screwdriver into #1 spark plug hole and slowly turn the crank till the piston stops.
This should put the dist rotor at #1 wire. Then run the remaining wires according to firing order.
