I know there are posts about this already but I can't find one with the exact symptom. On my 96 the antenna is stuck in the up position and can't be forced down. The motor runs for a few seconds when you turn the radio on or off. Will a mast kit fix this?

Thanks in advance.
When you get the old antenna out, compare the length to the new one. If it is shorter, then there is a broken piece inside of the motor assemble. In that case you will have to remove the antenna assembly, take it apart and get the pieces out. Then you can install the new mast.
If you don’t get out the broken pieces, it will not work properly.
There is lots of info in the Forum on it. I have done it and many others too.
.....in a previous motor i had, i disassembled the motor unit and found an electrical cam and contact....i noticed that the contact was resting on a worn section of the cam and not making contact...i SLIGHTLY bent the contact and all was fine.......
Same problem with my 92 (stuck in the up position).
When I covered her for the winter, I applied some down pressure and it retracted.
Tried both Zip and Full Throttle Corvette and it seems nobody has the 90-92 antenna assemblies in stock as I was going to just replace the whole assembly.
Anybody know of a parts supplier that might have this part in stock?

Try some of these suppliers;
www.antennamastsrus.com (Cheapest, No antenna nut tool)
Edit; I asked and they included an AC Delco type antenna mast nut tool free of charge! Great service and an OEM part! Highly recommended!
One of the first things I did when I bought my car was I put an in line switch on the antenna to control when it goes up and down. Small little toggle switch in the compartment behind the passenger seat. Since then, it has never been up. For all I know at this point, it could be stuck in the down position.
Have not had any issues with radio reception. If I do, I just pop in a CD......and yeah, the CD player still works just fine. Although I probably just jinxed myself now.
Same symptoms my GS had originally. Replaced the mast and was fine. Much easier to replace the mast than to replace the entire antenna.
I've read on this forum that if there are "broken" bits & pieces inside the
assembly, you have to get inside it to remove the pieces. Isn't the
same task involved --- removing the entire assembly?? Thank you
