The '90 convertible is the first topless car I have ever owned. How does one go about caring for the top? Is the top on our cars vinyl or cloth? Anything else I should know?

If you have the original, it is vinyl. Just use name brand rag top cleaner available in any auto parts store. At some point it will get cracks, tears, or stained - or you will get sick of the plastic rear window and you will replace it with the glass version model.

What kind of shape is the top in? Is the plastic window good? Lots of info on tops in "Search".

What color is your top? White are the only vinyl ones I believe. The rest are made if a material called "stayfast". Stayfast is really a non maintenence item.

Black with the plastic rear window. Window isn't bad, a little hazy.

That top would be the Stayfast material. There are products by Ragg Topp for cleaning and protecting the top, of course, dirt doesn't really show on black. The rear window can be polished out to factory new, I did one some years ago that was so yellow you couldn't see through it. A plastic window will develop scratches where it folds on itself with the top down. Some guys use a towel between the folds, or you can buy a "pillow" sold for the purpose.

Good luck with your new ride and welcome!

Can the plastic rear window be replaced on the original top? Also what do you use to clear up an original plastic window?

I have not heard of a satisfactory window replacement. In any case, unless it's cracked through, you can probably restore it. Search my threads for step-by-step guidance on doing this. I restored a plastic window that was so yellowed you could not see through it.

Click on my username to the left of my post. On the drop-down menu, click on "find more posts...". On the top of the new screen is a search box, in the box, type in "plastic+window" or some variation. The post you need is only a couple of weeks old.

Default '90 vert tops

I have a '90 that I purchased new, still has the same stay fast top, however cannot see through the plastic window. Plus the outer edge is
frayed is some places, top need to be replaced.

I found a top on Mid-America for the car, with a glass rear window, if I purchase the top I would need a local shop to install, Phoenix, Arizona.

Has anyone purchased the top I am referring to, if so do you like it, is it a pain and not the same quality as the original?

Thank You
Jeff

Updated my '92 to the glass window top 6 years ago, at that time Mid-America sold tops from E-Z-On, as did several other vendors. I wound up buying from Corvette Central, identical top, lower price. Don't know whose top they sell now, but they will tell you if you ask. If you do this update, you need the retrofit kit to support the weight of the glass. You will likely be replacing all the weatherstrips also.

At the time, I did my own install, and the only nit I can pick is that the top is cut very slightly too full from the bottom of the glass to the rear deck, resulting in a slight ripple or looseness of the fabric in that area.

Between the top, the kit, weatherstripping, and labor, you will probably spend high $100s. Check my previous post here and also in "search" if you would rather not spend the money, as I rescued a plastic window that was basically opaque and brought it back to "as-new" clarity, drove it for a year or two before the new top project.

Correction I did say earlier in this thread that my explanation of the revival process was a couple of weeks ago, but the detailed description was substantially older, it's in the Forum archives.
